Acrylic on Illustration board 22 x 30 2025 The Unseen Surface explores the feeling of being consumed by anxiety and the moment of finally breaking free. I envisioned anxiety as a tidal force, with the figure reaching toward the surface and fighting against the weight of the water. I used diluted acrylic washes to let the texture of the illustration board show through, creating a watercolor-like effect, using thicker applications define the figure and areas where the body interacts with the water.

22" x 30" Acrylic, Pastel, Fineliner pens on mixed media paper 2023 The Collapse depicts a woman standing at the edge of a collapsing city, helmet in hand, as she looks toward a horizon beyond the ruins. The piece explores the moment of unshackling oneself from the expectations and structures that once felt confining, choosing instead to step into an uncertain but liberated future. I used a predominantly monochromatic palette to create a sense of bleakness and uniformity, interrupted by a vibrant red sun that represents possibility, change, and a new horizon.

17" x 20" Colored pencil on watercolor paper 2025 I wanted to capture the raw energy and atmosphere of a live concert through a limited warm palette of yellow, orange, and red. Working from a photograph taken at a local show, I used shifts in value and saturation to build dimension and guide the eye through the performer, stage lighting, and surrounding crowd. Restricting the palette allowed me to focus more closely on light, shadow, and contrast while still conveying the intensity and movement of the performance.

14" x 20" Colored pencil, acrylic on watercolor paper 2025 I wanted to capture the nostalgia of being fully present in the world, away from the constant pull of screens and technology. I depicted my friend Maya running freely through a sunlit wheat field, with the movement of her clothing emphasizing the feeling of freedom and spontaneity. The impressionistic background contrasts with the finely rendered figure, creating a familiar, warm, and slightly dreamlike feeling.

11" x 14" Acrylic on illustration board 2026 Inspired by the playful compositions of I SPY books. Using only ultramarine blue, orange, and white acrylic, I explored how a limited palette could create contrast, depth, and a sense of play.

8" x 11" Graphite on paper 2026 A Moment in Time captures a fleeting moment of connection between the subject and the viewer. This close-up portrait pushed my graphite and pencil skills, particularly in rendering realistic skin, subtle values, and delicate facial features without losing the visible qualities of a drawing. I focused on balancing realism with expressive mark-making, allowing the texture of the graphite to remain present rather than striving for a perfectly polished photographic effect.

14" x 20" Pencil and Graphite Powder 2026 Disorientation captures the sensory overload of a small punk show, where blaring speakers, shifting bodies, and constant movement can make everything around you feel blurred and indistinct. I used pencil and graphite powder to build deep shadows and create a deliberate balance between sharply rendered details and areas that dissolve into darkness.

14" x 20" Gouache and colored pencil 2025 Created for a Color Theory class, this piece explores the tension between vibrant beauty and the grotesque. I depicted a woman floating through space, her body opening into an intricately patterned, shell-like torso as her intestines drift freely into the surrounding void. By pairing an unsettling subject with a playful, saturated palette, I wanted to blur the line between the beautiful and the disturbing while transforming the human body into something strange and otherworldly.

14" x 17" Gouache on illustration board 2026 This gouache painting depicts The Six Pence Pub in Savannah, Georgia, using a restrained palette of Prussian blue, burnt sienna, yellow, and white. I used muted, earthy colors to capture the grounded and familiar atmosphere of the space. Limiting my palette challenged me to create depth, variation, and atmosphere by mixing and adjusting a small range of colors rather than relying on an unlimited selection.

24 x 18" colored pencil and acrylic 2024 A Sweet Escape was created as a gift for my mom, imagining a secret garden where she could retreat into a world of peace. A woman sits, surrounded by winding vines, blooming marigolds, and a shimmering waterfall, while rabbits wander through the grounds. Each detail was chosen with my mom in mind: marigolds represent her birth flower, the rabbit reflects her zodiac sign, and as a Libra her symbol appears as delicate scale-shaped earrings.

20" x 18" Graphic and Charcoal on paper 2023 The Deer Woman is a graphite and charcoal interpretation of a figure from Indigenous mythology, often depicted as a woman who can transform into a deer or as a woman with deer-like features. In many retellings, she serves as a cautionary figure, reminding men to treat women with dignity and respect.

24" x 18" Colored pencil on mixed media paper 2023 Part of my AP Drawing concentration exploring femininity in the modern world, Specimen examines the ways women are reduced to objects of desire and subjected to expectations that seek to define and control their bodies. The figure is presented almost as a specimen herself, observed and contained rather than free to exist on her own terms. Butterflies, traditionally symbols of transformation and freedom, become trapped within this narrative, reflecting the tension between the desire for autonomy and the forces that restrict it.
